Russian nesting dolls,
German hand-carved smokers and nutcrackers,

Every couple of months,
I go on a Field Trip to Trader Joe's in Milwaukee WI.
Living in the Northwoods of WI,
I frequently take "field trips" to my favorite stores that haven't made their way this far north.
One of  my favorite stores for a field trip is Trader Joe's.
I make it there at least 4-6 times a year.
When I do go, I buy everything in amounts of three's.
Each time I go,
I buy my usual items, and they are:

1. Bran Flakes
2. Coffee
3. Pumpernickel Pretzels
4. Triple Ginger Cookie
5. Chocolate Toffee
6. Kona Coffee Cookies
I also pick up three or more items that I have never tried before..
Such as: Almond Flour, Roasted Coconut Chips, Fig Bars and Brown Rice Medley.

I buy my hubby a few bottles of Charles Shaw Wine.
Trader Joe's is an exclusive retailer of Charles Shaw Wine and
has been selling Charles Shaw Wine from the beginning.

Field Trip- Cucumbers equal Pickles!

On the Menu Today~
Cucumbers

Today on my way home from Shawano WI,
I stopped at my favorite farm stand.
The farm is ran by a very hard-working family, the Kirchner's.
Their farm is located on County Hwy. R, near Suring WI.
I go past this farm all the time and
have stopped there on numerous occasions.
Northern Wisconsin is about 2 weeks behind in the harvest of vegetables and
fruits due to cooler temperatures and lack of rain.

Mulberry Season brings Mulberry Syrup

On the Menu Today~
How to Juice Mulberries
How to Make Mulberry Syrup

Mulberry Season!

It's Mulberry Season and the Mulberry trees are overflowing.
I'm off to Oshkosh WI to pick Mulberries at Bob and Kim's house. They are fortunate enough to have 3 very large Mulberry Trees on their property. I am armed with gloves, bug spray, an old sheet, plastic baggies and a baseball bat! Oh yes, we will be a sight to be seen indeed!

It's a mystery to me why more people don't cook with Mulberries. They're fun to hunt for, delicious, nutritious and if your lucky enough and know someone who has Mulberry trees, they're free! Mulberry trees can be found in the woods, farms, yards, and even in parks. People don't usually know what they are and even think they are poisonous, which of course, they are not.

Morus is a genus of flowering plants in the family Moraceae, commonly know as Mulberry Tree. Mulberries are about 1/2" to 1" long and come in shades of white, red and black. There are two kinds of Mulberries. The native red Mulberry and white Mulberry. The white Mulberry, is originally from Asia and was imported here in the early 1800's. The two species have hybridized over the years, so there are now pink Mulberries.
There are 10-16 species of these deciduous trees.

For more than 135 years,
The Kentucky Derby has always been the
perfect occasion to extend Bluegrass hospitality.
Although the Derby is held in Louisville,
the spotlight shines on the whole state.
Everyone in the state celebrates on race day,
the first Saturday in May.
The Derby is more than a horse race it's a social event.
The celebration starts with brunch and
extends throughout the day and continues over the week-end.
If you're lucky enough to be seated in the upper levels of Churchill Downs,
you're expected to show up in your finest duds.
