{Perfect} Crock Pot Beef Roast

I have been making this recipe for
Beef Roast and Veggies for a very long time.
When I was a single mom, working full-time,
this was one of my "go to" recipes.

Back then,
I was dubbed the "Queen of the Crock Pot" by my kids.
They would say; "Ahh Mom, Not another crock-pot meal!"
Now, years later, many of those "crock-pot suppers" are their favorite meals.

Most of my "crock-pot suppers" were made with ingredients I had on hand.
I would toss everything in the crock pot, turn it on and went to work.
When I got home, supper was ready.
All I had to do was dish up supper and
sit down at the table and hear all about their day....

Amish Onion Cake

Amish Onion Cake

This rich, moist bread has an onion-poppy seed topping.
It's a wonderful change from regular bread served with a meal.
You can serve this bread as a side with meat, stews, soup, chili or
you can top slices with cheese and eat it that way too!

I have wanted to try this cake/bread for a long time.
I found this recipe in a Taste of Home Cookbook called:
"The Market Fresh Cookbook."

I bought this cookbook over 6 years ago and
thought it was high time to give this recipe a try.
This bread is wonderful.
Rich, hearty, different and tasty~
A nice change of pace from dinner rolls or corn bread.
It's great toasted too.



Thin slices of Amish Onion Cake would be great served with a
spoonful of left-over Thanksgiving Day gravy...{wink wink}

we thought the rye starter would give the crackers a stronger flavor.

were very addictive!

Wonderful and Sweet~
Perfect for a Weekend Morning.

This recipe is wonderful...
The original recipe calls for cherry preserves,
that you melt and brush on the warm loaves.
Instead,
we made an almond cream cheese icing,
tinted it pink and drizzled it over the loaves.


Recipe Idea:
For a holiday and festive look,
tint the almond cream cheese frosting green and
drizzle over coffee cake.
Make "holly" from candied cherries and
green spearmint leaves~
