How to Dry Onions and Garlic in the Oven

Drying onions and garlic is easier than you think.
It's a simple process with delicious results.
These dried jewels have many uses in the kitchen.
They are versatile and will become a staple in your kitchen.



Dried onions and garlic can be used
just like fresh onions and garlic.
Easily reconstituted by adding to soups, stews and chili. 
Dried onions and garlic can be used in dips, and sauces.

With dried onions and garlic, you can make
your own onion-soup mixes and
can be added to many seasoning blends




How to Dry Onions and Garlic in the Oven

Ingredients
  • 5 or more onions, remove root end, top and skins, 
  • slice into 1/4-inch to 1/8-inch slices or chop
  • 5 or more shallots, remove root end, top and skins, 
  • slice into 1/4-inch to 1/8-inch slices or chop
  • 5 or more cloves garlic, remove root end, top and skins, 
  • slice into 1/4-inch to 1/8-inch slices or chop
Cooking Directions
  1. Preheat oven to 150 degrees. Scatter on baking sheet in a single layer. Place trays in oven.
  2. Drying time should take between 6 to 10 hours. Check often during drying time.
  3. The onions/garlic will be brittle when dry and will crumble when crushed.
  4. Store dried onions/garlic in a cool, dry place at room temperature in an airtight container.
