Sourdough Corn Bread...
Sourdough Cornbread
Ingredients
- 1 1/2 cups flour
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 3/4 cup cornmeal
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup sourdough starter
- 1 cup milk
- 2 eggs
- 1/2 cup vegetable oil
- In a medium bowl, combine flour, sugar, cornmeal, baking powder and salt
- In a separate bowl, mix starter, milk, eggs and oil. Add to flour mixture. Stir just until combined. Pour batter into a greased 9 inch square pan.
- Bake at 350º for 30 to 35 minutes or until golden brown and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Cool pan on a wire rack at least 10 minutes.
- Cut bread into squares
Serve warm with butter and honey
Sourdough, Muffins
Kitchen Tip:
Cornmeal is available in several colors.
Typically,
Southerners prefer white cornmeal,
Northerners like to use yellow and
Blue cornmeal is popular in the Southwest.
All the colors can be used interchangeably.
The flavor and texture of the different types are virtually the same but
keep in mind that blue cornmeal can make some dishes look unusual.
